Vermette goes to Columbus in return for G Pascal Leclaire and 2009 second rounder ***Leclaire's value seems to be at an all-time low so Columbus had to throw in a 2nd rounder to get a scoring forward in return. Vermette is capable of playing center or wing, so don't be surprised to see Vermette tried at center at first in Columbus. I had a feeling Leclaire would not only be dealt, but dealt specifically to Ottawa, and I think hes going to be great there. I'm not so sure Vermette was the forward Columbus needed, but obviously they thought so.
TSN broke the trade live just now...Calgary has acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold from Colorado in exchange for journeyman defenseman Lawrence Nycholat, prospect Ryan Wilson and a 2nd round pick. ***Leopold is familiar with Calgary's system, having played there not too long ago. His injury problems are reportedly behind him and hes playing his best hockey in a long time. Great pickup for Calgary and they didn't give up too much.
Pittsburgh trades Danny Richmond from St. Louis for Andy Wozniewski. *minor league swap of defenseman
Phoenix traded Mikael Tellqvist to Buffalo for a 4th round draft pick. *look for Phoenix to call up prospect Josh Tordjman to backup Bryzgalov

does tellqvist get right in as buffalo's starter with miller out?

Thats what Darren Pang and Keith Jones were saying on TSN, absolutely that Tellqvist will be given every chance to be the starter till Miller comes back because Lalime has shown he can't do it.

Chicago's Craig Adams is now a Penguin, as Pittsburgh claims him off waivers. *veteran leadership brought in to help out, might mean that the price to bring in a higher profile veteran was too high.
Its being reported that Calgary is moving Adrian Aucoin, and Olli Jokinen seems to be on the move.

jokinen for lombardi, prust, and 1st?
not sure if these guys are talking about a potential deal or a done deal.

Looks like they said thats the framework, and it should be a done deal if TSN reports it. I've seen them wrong once, that was several years ago when they reported Sean Burke had signed with Pittsburgh, but unfortunately he signed with Tampa Bay instead.

Boston sends Petteri Nokelainen to Anaheim for Steve Montador. I take this to mean Boston is NOT going after a big name defenseman like Pronger, Bouwmeester or Derek Morris. Montador is a very underrated defenseman who plays a physical brand of hockey and can also chip in offensively. Nokelainen is a former 1st round pick that hasn't put his offensive tools together yet but has plenty of potential, and is at worst a 3rd line player and a pretty good one at that. Very good deal for both clubs in my opinion.

Players involved in deals that should be announced soon: Bill Guerin, Dominic Moore, Nik Antropov, Mark Recchi, Derek Morris
Potentially: Scott Clemmensen, Jeff Halpern, Vinny Prospal, Erik Cole, Marian Gaborik and more.

Vesa Toskala going to IR and is done for the rest of the season. Martin Gerber was picked up off waivers from Ottawa and will be the new no. 1 in Toronto.

I've also read that Pronger is not on the market. I never expected him to be, but all the speculation out there made it seem like a possibility there for a minute.
I expect another Western Conference team to make a big move to counter Calgary getting Jokinen and Leopold.

Sprtsnet has a camera in the Leafs war room. Sounds really exciting doesn't it?!?! It's four guys sitting in front of their laptops!! The last time they cut to the room three of them had gone to lunch, and one guy was playing with a piece of paper!! Gripping footage!

What about Milan Hejduk? I am hoping he gets dealt and then I can swoop in and grab him in my league. I might drop Lalime for him anyway.

I'd go ahead and drop Lalime because Tellqvist will be given every opportunity to be the starter until Miller returns. I doubt Hejduk gets dealt though.
And that Toronto "war-room" feed...Sportsnet sure was proud of that accomplishment...lol

The 1st rounder that Phoenix gets from Calgary in the Jokinen deal, Phoenix gets the option if they want to use that pick in 2009 or pass and use it in 2010.

When Anaheim placed struggling centerman Brendan Morrison on waivers the hope was that a team would be desperate enough to place a claim on him...their wish came true. Dallas claimed Morrison off waivers, and I'm very interested to see the results of this one. Could be a colossal flop, or could be a decent move...reason I'm thinking it could be decent is because Dallas is a much more physical team than Anaheim and you have to think they can create more space for Morrison to setup plays.

TSN's Bob McKenzie is saying that the two front running teams for Jay Bouwmeester are Philadelphia and surprisingly, Vancouver.
He also reports that teams are burning up the phones trying to get Colby Armstrong from Atlanta.

I imagine Phoenix will be using it in this deep draft. I'll drop Lalime for Hejduk for now. Selanne has been disappointing me lately. Maybe Hejduk will pick it up with Statsny back.

He also reports that teams are burning up the phones trying to get Colby Armstrong from Atlanta. I still don't think Bouwmeester will be dealt. I hope he doesn't get dealt to Van though. I don't think he's THAT much of an upgrade over what we already have and this upgrade would cost a 1st rounder +.

On a personal note, as much as I respect and admire Rick Tocchet, I would LOVE to have Peter Laviolette coaching in Tampa. Hes on TSN's panel right now with former Lightning GM Jay Feaster and former superpest Matthew Barnaby...good TV.

Andy Strickland, Blues writer, states that the Blues were asked for TJ Oshie in exchange for Chris Pronger, and rejected the offer. Oshie, as I'm sure many of you know is one of their best young players and St. Louis has labeled him "untouchable." Be grateful for that, Blues fans....dealing Oshie would not have been a wise choice.

The dude on VS last night (sorry, I don't know any announcer's names as I usually prefer listening to my 8 year old throw a tantrum to listening to thier incessant babble, this post being the exception and not the rule) was thinking that it comes down to whether bouwy has changed his tune at all. If the man is still adament about wanting to be gone, you need to get something for him. If he has softened based on the success of Florida, you need to try and keep him. It would be a disaster to lose him for nothing.
