I'm sure you guys know this already, but i had to make a thread, cuz it makes me happy.
He has signed a 12 year deal woth $64 million. Putting his cap hit at an awesome $5.3 million.
His deal is structured like this: $10 million in 2010-11, $6.716 million in 2011-12, $6.714 for the next six seasons, $3.382 million in 2018-19, $1.618 million in 2019-2020 and $1 million in each of 2020-21 and 2021-2022.
The Canucks used the 'ole Lecavalier loophole in order to get a good cap hit while still giving big bucks to Roberto. If he retires at 40 then he wont even play those past two years, and those years wont count against the Canucks cap.
I just hope Louie doesn't pull a Dipietro and get seriously hurt a year or two into the deal.

These contracts are getting a bit out of hand now. Oh well... regardless smart move by the Canucks by keeping the face of the franchise and one of the best goalies out there.

I agree, they are a bit out of hand. But if Luongo can stay healthy and play like he always has, its worth it.

I understand that its smart to play the rules to your advantage but I really don't like the sportsmenship of so brashly exploiting a loophole. "Yeah we just signed Tavaras to an extention for 30 years for 70 million dollars, smirk smirk." What do you mean? Gordie was playing in his 50's.
