I drafted Evander Kane in my salary cap, keeper league and have him under contract for the next 4 seasons. I think the kid can play now, he's got the skills and the speed but needs to get a little bigger. What are your thoughts? Will he make the big club this season or get sent down? I salivate at the thought of him playing alongside Kovalchuk.

Alright well I've been working with Zoom with compiling the complete depth charts of every team in the NHL we will unveil very soon with the new layout because we finished the charts already. As we were doing Atlanta.... Kane was a tough one to decide because it really depends on management if they wanna break him in now or take it easy for him and give him another year in junior. From the charts and the current guys in place Kane can easily jump in a 3rd line role and do well. As it stands right now we agree that Kane has a good shot to crack the Atlanta lineup this season because he simply is too good to keep down in juniors as you stated. As far as fantasy relevance depends on where he plays. Thankfully from most accounts most say he's versatile enough to play any forward spot so that'll be a huge help. On LW it will be very tough for him to crack anywhere past Kovalchuk/Kozlov but 3rd line is very realistic because Sterling never seems to lockdown a spot for himself. @ Center I imagine Peverley sticks @ the top @ center but White could be beatable for Kane. Now I'm not saying he can beat White straight out of training camp but later on in the season if he cracks the 2nd line @ center he could put up fantasy relevant #s. RW will be very hard for him to crack if Antropov stays on RW but regardless I think it's realistic to say out of training camp Kane can break in as high as the 3rd line which is good news because that'll be a big step and it'll show management has high hopes for him and could be seeing top 6 minutes by the end of the season if he beats out guys. Now say he cracks in a 4th line role that's where things could get hairy... If that happens i think Atlanta will give him a 10-game tryout where he can either stick w/ the club by playing well or struggle a bit and find himself back in juniors. I predict Kane will get @ least a 10 game tryout and until we all see him play those games it'll be hard to judge to know what he will do.

I don't think he'll make the team full time, but will get his cup o' joe. I also don't think he'll garner enough minutes/top-6 time to be worthy of an active roster spot in fantasy

Some of the latest news on Evander, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported today that Kane dominated at the Traverse City rookie tournament against fellow NHL prospects. He collected five goals and one assist in four games against the top prospects from a few other organizations. He does appear to be on top of his game going into camp. My gut tells me he'll make the team out of camp and is worth picking up in most leagues to see if he sticks.
