As most Thornton owners do, I've been getting offers up the wazoo for him this summer. Everyone thinks they're going to trick me into believing he's an 86-point player because of an "off" year. Most of the offers have sucked, but this one intrigued me.
It's a keeper league with a ton of stat categories, including some redundant ones...
G, A, P, PIM, +/-, PPG, PPA, PPP, SHP, GWG, SOG, FW
The trade is: Thornton for Carter and a pick upgrade.
I'm looking at Jeff Carter and seeing this... he's younger, more FW, way more SOG, way more GWG, way more SHP, more PPG, more points, and, of course, more goals.
I realize Jumbo Joe had an off year, but has Carter really reached his max potential? or is he getting better?
Is there any reason I should reject this trade?

I am not sure I would do it. I always knew Carter was going to be good but I worry he played over his head. Isn't Carter a center also, if Carter was a winger maybe but I think its a downgrade unless you can do something interesting with the pick.

Really tough choice here, although I think that if you can make something of value come from that pick I'd do it. It's all the accessory cats that Carter gives you that would compensate you if Thornton goes back to more huge numbers and Carter levels off or even drops a bit there. Seasons are what, 22 weeks long? So Thornton would have to put up 22 more points than Carter in order for the difference to be just 1pt per week. With all the extras Carter gives, I think that's well worth it especially if that pick upgrade is at all significant.

I'd definitely be trying for the 34th from 47th in this. Thornton's name should get you that. Honestly though, in a keeper and with all the differences previously listed I think I'd do the deal regardless. Points is only one cat and you get a win just the same for all the others. Plus the age, and blah-blah-blah, blah-blah-blah.
