keeper league with a $300 salary cap. Just F, D, and G. You get to keep 12 players from year to year. Categories are G, A, Pts, +/-, PIM, PPG, PPA, GWG, SOG, W, GAA, SV%.
I give up Mikku koivu ($9 salary) and Sam Gagner ($4)
I get Alexander Semin ($6)
We are still working out the details, but those are the main pieces. I am really leaning towards taking it, even though semin has injury concerns. What do you think?

its pretty good. I think mikku is starting to fill his shoes and Wild are supposed to go on the offensive next year. Granger is also someone that could be a star in future but Semin at only $6 is a steal. Its tough to say Just to get a salary perspective how much is Lecavilier or Luongo?

disregarding salaries, i like it. in a league where you only keep 12 players, concentrating talent is important. Getting 2 B's for an A is a good move, and that's what I think you're doing here.

Great points I was thinking at say an average of 10 dollars a player 12 keepers wouldn't even dent your cap unless the roster is deeeeeep. So I was thinking salaries may be irrelivant But yeah concentrating talent and lower salary all together seems like a good move.

Yeah that's the thing, all of these 3 players involved are very cheap. During the season we have 25 players on our rosters (not including farm team) for a total cap of $300 (3 G, 6 D, 16 F). Top tier talent for forwards are at least $40+ (datsyuk =50, crosby = 55, ovechkin=61, kovalchuk - 42) and most top end goalies are just under $40 (luongo, brodeur, nabokov are all between $37-39).
The GM seemed to be just screwing with me i guess, but I was asking for a little more in return (ie. a draft pick in addition). Last year was the first year in our league and I took the opportunity to be the first team to rebuild for the future so I managed to score for very good keepers and prospects. As a result I am in a very good spot to go for the win next year since I have a lot of cap space to spend on big name talent. Right now here are my keepers: Jeff Carter ($4!!), Simon gagne ($9), mikku koivu ($9), Gaborik ($27), mike richards ($29), okposo ($2), sam gagner ($4), claude giroux ($4), gonchar ($13), doughty ($1), brodeur ($38), and nabokov ($37). I also have a bunch of solid prospects on my farm team that are eligible to remain there until 150 games played (duchene, MSP, brassard, oshie, boedker) and 3 of 10 first round picks in the prospect draft.
What would be the Max. that you would give for a guy like semin? would you go as high as gagner, koivu and a 1st round pick? Also if I were to do this trade, it would open up a keeper spot. Which of the following bubble players would you keep for the next season: kariya ($10), penner ($2), or dubinsky ($10). I would say kariya, but just curious what you all think.

a healthy semin is going to score 100 points for the next 15 seasons (or as long as he's playing with AO). That said, Mikko Koivu is looking at 70+ points this year (and in the future). so even if gagner doesn't pan out, i still think you might be overpaying a little bit (if including the 1st rounder).
How often are these salaries changed?
as for the bubble players... keep kariya.

Karyia for me
I'm with zoom a first rounder on top is to much. Maybe do koivu and 1st round and hang onto granger
You might also consider moveing bassard out of the prospect pool if a keeper spot opens through trade

After next season, salaries will be going up (additional $10 for those i want to keep beyond 3 years, $5 if i just want them for 2 seasons, after which they become FA, or $0 if its just for 1 more year). I will most likely bring up oshie and brassard next year, but only after the start of the season. This way i can still keep kariya too for next season and just call them up at the beginning of the year to replace a worse player that i pick up as a fill in during the auction.
so you would do semin for gagner and koivu straight up, but not with the addition of a 1st round pick right? What about a lower pick (ie. 2nd or 3rd rounder)? still too much?

Also, what are your thoughts on Giroux? What do you think his career potential is in terms of points/year? I hope he is going to have a very solid year this year being on the top two line in philly. Do you think giroux or sam gagner have a higher ceiling?

i think anything more might be too much... like fuku said, if you can do koivu/1st rounder, i'd consider that... i'd definitely do gagner/1st rounder.
if semin's a 10, koivu is a 7, gagner is a 3, and a 1st rounder is at least a 6. you're talking about 16 from you for semin's 10, if that makes sense.

koivu is much more marketable than Giroux I don't think you could land semin with Giroux as your lead but its worth a try. Your best offers are probably Koivu and 1st or Giroux, Granger, and 1st. I'd start really worrying about overpayment beyond that. Since you have a nice prospect poll a pick is expendable especially getting someone like A. Semin in return.
