Hi!
I am in a league where our keepers can only be kept 3 years. Another GM made me an offer to swap four of our keepers, so as not to lose them.
I give: Iginla, Backstrom (WAS), Phaneuf, Keith
I receive: Hossa, Luongo, Campbell, Timonen
It's a points only pool, but we count +/-, and PPG. +/- are worth double for defenseman.
Ah, and my main weakness right now is my goaltending (Turco, Khabibulin).
Should I do it? Im thinking not but I'd like to hear you guys.
Thanks.

Will all the players be able to be kept the same duration after the trade, or will it be like Iginla 2 more years, Backstrom 3, etc...?
You definitely age with the deal, but you can't keep players forever anyway. In points only, the D-swap seems pretty equal. I wouldn't mind seeing yours and his roster to maybe see the big picture a bit better, but if what you really need is goaltending, I could see making this trade.

After the trade, all the players are good to be kept 3 years. And we can keep 10 players.

IMO, in this trade getting Luongo is great. You can handle the D swap with Lidstrom and Green on roster already. However, it leaves you weak at F.
I think I would either counter with Heater instead of Hossa, which still leaves you a bit weak in number, but I like Heater much better than Hossa over the next three years, OR counter with another F over Timonen. Marleau or Nash would probably do it for me.
As is, your keepers are:
Iginla Backstrom Kovy Sedin Elias/Franzen? Lidstrom Green Phaneuf Keith? Turco
One nice thing about making the trade is that your only going to be drafting Fs, which should be more abundant. You're only going to be worried about depth D and G.
I would probably explore the counter route, but think you could make the trade and be ok. You're D is great with or without the trade, and getting Luongo would completely solidify your Gs. If you think you can handle the F position in the draft or additional trading, go for it.
With the trade as is: Kovy Hossa Sedin Elias Lidstrom Green Campbell Timonen Luongo Turco

Yeh I'd hafta agree that this trade is a no go. Granted getting a top 5 goalie in Luongo is really nice but it really seems like you are giving up the major talent in this deal. If you really need help between the pipes hope for Turco to bounce back and maybe move a solid forward or defenseman in a package for a Ryan Miller type goalie because the elite goalies will "break the bank."

Getting hossa or heater kinda stinks with their futuer's so uncertain. Neither one of them put up their best points by far in the last year or two and who knows where they are going this summer. Not saying a no go I mean it is heater hossa, but stinks to send Iginla off for any uncertaintly in return. Luongo is in for an improvement this coming season but you loose some youth on D. I don't think you get the better of the deal but its better than loosing all those players to FA and watching you're opponents snatch them up.
Maybe if he threw in another player or pick to make up the difference and bolstered you at another position
