This is a great draft year. I hope Schenn falls to 7 so toronto can draft him and have a brother tandem, but if they do get kane that is awesome too. I like the FA signings Burke is doing and with a top 7 pick in this draft Toronto should have a good rebuild.
LA getting another top 5 pick in this draft, if their talent clicks one of these seasons look out!

i think kulikov will go early, but i don't think he'll be going to edmonton... with souray, grebeshkov, visnovsky, and gilbert, i can't really see the oilers taking another scoring dman.
in LA... rumor has it Magnus is NHL-ready. Also the rumors of lecavalier to LA won't go away. you could see a monster team out there with the likes of brown, moller, simmonds, MPS, hickey, doughty, quincey, johnson... not to mention quick and bernier in net. LA could be the favorite to win the Pacific next year...

Looking back, I probably should have put a forward, perhaps Kadri or Schroeder, for Edmonton. But then again, with Hemsky, Gagner, Cogliano, Horcoff, Nilsson and newly acquired O'Sullivan upfront, not to mention Dustin Penner and that awful contract that won't end till 2012-13, plus Jordan Eberle and Riley Nash being all but NHL ready, I just didn't see where they had room for a forward.
I think the Kings are going to make a big trade this summer, I think there is some truth to the Lecavalier to LA rumors, more so than Montreal. Although do have this really sick feeling those new silly owners may deal him to the Panthers...why? I don't know.
Back to LA, something along the lines of Oscar Moller, Andrei Loktionov, Jack Johnson(or Matt Greene) and their 1st may be too good an offer to pass up. We shall see.
On Schenn to Toronto, I really don't think that will happen, only because I doubt Brayden slips to no. 7 overall. Now, Toronto could always trade up. But if given a choice between Schenn or Kane straight up, although its close I like Schenn to go before him, which would be Atlanta. That is of course assuming Colorado takes Matt Duchene, which I can't for the life of me fathom the Avs not doing so.

if tampa could actually get moller, loktionov, johnson, hedman, and paajarvi-svensson for lecavalier... that would be very much worth it. not sure it makes sense for LA though, to be honest... moller seems to be a key part to their future. then again, it's lecavalier...

Well being a long time Kings fan it's been awhile since there's been a buzz about the team and @ this point it's gonna take a catastrophe to really kill the upswing the Kings are on. At this offseason I don't think Kings can go wrong unless they make a deal that kills the depth we spent years on accumulating. As far as my opinion on the matters at issue Kings would deal for Kovalchuk before they would for Lecavalier. Also I think to address the scoring need they would need a Gaborik/Hossa to really buy into the system and sign for relatively cheap and long term if they won't then they will go elsewhere. Another option would be search within the organization for someone to step up or bring in... say... Williams gets back to 30+ goal form or a prospect comes in camp really surprises and develops a scoring touch quick or find a way to pry Jan Marek from Russia and sign him. Regardless, Kings will address the need and I don't see the scoring being much of a glaring issue because Kings have a lot of options just a matter of finding the right one that serves the best for the organization.

I keep hearing there is little or no market for Lecavalier because of his salary, and that the Lightning aren't looking for much in return for Vinny, they just want to get his $10 mill a year off the books. Maybe that's just the Canadian press blowing smoke, but in this economy I can see how lots of owners would want to steer clear of Lecavalier.

2009 NHL ENTRY DRAFT 1st Round MockHeres an update of what how I think the Entry draft could go down...I'm starting to believe that it makes more sense for the Islanders to take Hedman 1st overall, because they lack a number one defenseman in the organization, much like Tampa, and why would they pass on a player whose upside is as high as Chris Pronger's? I then think Colorado would come calling for that no. 2 overall pick for Tavares, perhaps sending a couple extra 2009 picks Tampa's way or perhaps a defenseman JM Liles or Brett Clark. Its all speculation, but its still fun! 1) NY Islanders - Victor Hedman, D 2) Colorado (from Tampa Bay) - John Tavares, C 3) Tampa Bay (from Colorado) - Matt Duchene, C 4) Atlanta - Brayden Schenn, C 5) Los Angeles - Magnus Paajarvi-Svensson, LW 6) Phoenix - Jared Cowan, D 7) Toronto - Evander Kane, C 8) Dallas - Nazem Kadri, C 9) Ottawa - Jordan Schroeder, RW 10) Edmonton - Scott Glennie, LW 11) Nashville - Peter Holland, C 12) Minnesota - Oliver Ekman-Larsson, D 13) Buffalo - Zack Kassian, RW 14) Florida - Dimitry Kulikov, D 15) Anaheim - Louis Leblanc, C 16) Columbus - John Moore, D 17) St. Louis - Kyle Palmieri, RW 18) Montreal - Zach Budish, RW 19) NY Rangers - Landon Ferraro, RW 20) Calgary - Ryan Ellis, D 21) Philadelphia - David Rundblad, D 22) Vancouver - Jacob Josefson, C 23) New Jersey - Nick Leddy, D 24) Washington - Chris Kreider, C 25) Boston - Simon Despres, D 26) NY Islanders - Carter Ashton, LW 27) Carolina - Tomas Tatar, RW 28) Chicago - Jeremy Morin, C 29) Detroit - Jordan Caron, RW 30) Pittsburgh - Toni Rajala, LW
Others with a shot at the 1st round: Drew Shore(C), Tomas Tatar(RW),Calvin de Haan(D), Ethan Werek(LW), Dylan Olsen(D), Tim Erixon(D), Richard Panik(RW)
Dark horses that may go sooner than anticipated: Michael Cichy(LW), Erik Haula(LW), Charles Olivier-Roussel(D), Jakob Silfverberg(LW), Sami Vatanen(D), Alexander Fallstrom(RW), Alex Chiasson(RW), Ben Hanowski(LW), Thomas Vincour(LW), Sergei Ostapchuk(RW), Michael Latta(C), Kenny Ryan(RW), Phil Varone(LW), Jaroslav Janus(G)

interesting to see Tatar so far up there. i was kind of hoping he'd fly under the radar a bit, but you're probably more right having him in the 1st round.
as for pittsburgh's #30... I bet they go for the best available dman. things are looking pretty dry in that regard now... just lovejoy and grant in the pipeline. looks like lovejoy, grant, letang, and goligoski are the core of the future, but they're going to need some role players there.
only other comment... i think kulikov goes earlier, possibly as early as #8 to Dallas, or to Ottawa at #9.

I'm also thinking the Canucks take a D-man with their pick.
With the loss of Bourdon, the only youngish D-men they have are Edler and Bieksa. Over the past 6 years Bourdon is the only D-man the Canucks have taken in the first round.

There is a lot of talk that NYI are considering Duchene as more of a complete player build your team around guy. This kinda reminds some of reading about the redwings going back and forth on Lafontaine or Yzerman although that wasn't 1st overall. Personnally I think I would take Hedman it is so hard to play against a team with an elite towering defenseman. Can't wait to see how it turns out. I also think evander kane goes on to outdo them all down the road
