great deal. great. both of their values goes way up, imo.
i was shocked, though, that ottawa got a 2nd rounder in this deal too. but i guess leclaire still has some question marks?

Leclaire's value seems to be at an all-time low so Columbus had to throw in a 2nd rounder to get a scoring forward in return. Vermette is capable of playing center or wing, so don't be surprised to see Vermette tried at center at first in Columbus. I had a feeling Leclaire would not only be dealt, but dealt specifically to Ottawa, and I think hes going to be great there. I'm not so sure Vermette was the forward Columbus needed, but obviously they thought so.

I think Fisher would be a better fit in Columbus, but as a Sens fan I love this deal. A second rounder in a deep draft and a goalie who was one of the best in the league last year.
Sure Vermette has a lot of potential, but I don't think he's much more than a great third liner. He just doesn't have the finish of an NHL top six forward.

Leclaire needed a fresh start after mason hit the scene. Hope he can stay healthy. Leclaire Auld Elliot sonds like a decent squad.

Wow Ottawa's young talent pool sure dried up quick. They seemed to have promise waiting in the wings with Eaves, Vermette and Emery. Now they're all gone. Vermette is an interesting piece to the blue jackets. He may not need to be a great finisher when you consider Filatov waiting in the minors. Maybe they were thinking ahead, and looking for a solid 2 way player with some skill that could dish the puck to a finisher.
Too bad Brassard is out for the rest of the season and they're keeping Filatov in the minors. That would be a very dynamic team with all the pieces in play. Looks like Hitchcock is building another contender.

I agree Columbus looks good for the future especially if Mason holds it together. That Hitchcock at it again, he really is awesome.
I dont know about Ottawa. They still have a lot of holes to patch. Seems like the Pizza line is now the only real claim to fame they have. What were they thinking when they let Chara go? Doo!
