'Canes coach Peter Laviolette was fired today, and replaced by experienced NHL coach Paul Maurice. Maurice coached the 'Canes to the cup finals in 2002, and was with the franchise from 1995-2004, beginning as assistant coach to the 95-96 Hartford Whalers.
Might I just point out that in HU's 'Ramblings From a Fan', written by the Hockey Hitman, a prediction was made that Laviolette would be fired by December. Granted, he didn't have all the details right, but still...
"The first head coach firing of the season will be Peter Laviolette in Carolina, before Christmas. His replacement? John Tortorella." - The Hockey Hitman, 9/26/08

Well Laviolette was rumored to be on the way out for awhile lil surprised they went back w/ Maurice, but regardless w/ the injuries on the Canes until this team gets healthy they will be outside the playoff picture looking in.
