TAMPA BAY – The Tampa Bay Lightning have acquired the rights to right wing Brian Rolston from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a conditional 2009 or 2010 draft choice, owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie announced.
"As we said earlier this week and we are trying to prove after making our deal with Pittsburgh yesterday, we will work feverishly to improve the Lightning team for the 2008-09 season," owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie said. "We believe getting the Lightning a head start in the negotiating and signing process can help us secure the players we are targeting. Nothing is guaranteed here, but we hope to have a chance to get another quality player in a Lightning uniform sooner rather than later."
The Lightning are building an Army. Sure, sure they've only dealt for the right to negotiate a contract.....but they did sign Malone after doing this just yesterday. This could certainly come back and bite them in the ass if Rolston doesn't sign, but good Lord if he does.....Vinny, St. Louis, Prospal, Stamkos, Malone, Roberts, Rolston, Ouelette, Halpern, Boyle, Craig, Ranger, Kuba.....that's not just a solid team, that's probably the best team in the east if everyone stays healthy. Hitman's got to be sh*tting hockey pucks right about now.

Problem is that they still can't keep their opponents from scoring. But maybe it won't matter with an offense like this one.

Maybe Rolston should play D. He can stop guys from scoring ..... and he has a big shot. They've got a pretty nice top 6 in Tampa now.

Yeah, but they've gotten a jump on the entire league in signing away 2 of the top UFA of the summer. They've got some time and money to spare to find a little depth at D on July 1st, and for God's sake hopefully a solid starting goalie!

I've read that Rolston has decided to test the FA waters. I haven't heard of him signing in Tampa by now, so I guess that's the case.
I would love to see Rolston in Vancouver. He's defensively responsible and can still get 30 goals a year. But I've herd he wants to play in the east.
