My team is in the footer. Since I get 3 skaters and a goalie:
Ovie and Kipper
Then: Getzlaf/Carter Getzlaf/Phaneuf Carter/Phaneuf
Keith?
I love Phaneuf, but he sucked it up last year -11? Will he be better playing with Jay? More of a defensive roll? Is Getzlaf going to be slowed down by the surgery?
I draft 9 of 10 in a serpentine draft.

Pretty solid team. I'd go with Ovechkin/Getzlaf/Phaneuf/Kipper. You save 1 solid player @ every position except RW which I'm sure you can address with your first pick or 2nd for that since it is extremely close. It sucks walking away from Carter but Getzlaf/Phaneuf are multi-category studs for both of their respective positions and with the categories involved in your league you can't let loose on any of those guys. Ovechkin is self-explanatory and Kipper is simple you need an anchor in net and Kipper can notch solid win totals that should be in the top 5 in the league for sure. Basically Carter is an odd man out, but it won't be disastrous losing him because center is a deep position that can be accommodated for. Also a little more detail with Phaneuf he should have a solid season and bounce back I'd expect a better +/- from him with another workhorse in Bouwmeester possibly pairing up w/ him or simply relieving the immense responsibilities on D. Either way Phaneuf will get his fair share of points from the blue line because he's on Calgary's top PP unit and he has a helluva shot that leads to quality scoring chances and goals.

I hear ya. Everything in my gut tells me take Phaneuf, but I totally got burned keeping him last year (the difference between 1st and 2nd) it is a sad, sad tale my friend. I love him because he's an animal, like Getz and Ovie. I think if I ever get a big badass dog, I'm gonna name it Phaneuf, and that's not meant as an insult.

Ya I would agree with Kings, go with the Getzlaf/Phaneuf combo. With Jay Bo in town, Phanuef will have less defensive responsibility and be able to join the rush more. Look for a jump back to the 60 pt mark with PIMs and a solid +/-. And with Getzlaf, the guy is a beast, and I am expecting point totals to be very close to 100 this season. With PIMs reaching close to the century mark too.

The reasoning has been stated well, so I'll just agree that Carter is the odd man out. Doesn't mean you won't be able to draft him back either. But if you can't, there are enough center options that you won't be hurt by it.

for what it's worth, i agree too... for all the reasons stated above. dmen are just harder to find than centermen. and getzlaf is just a hair better than carter.

getz phenuf for me
Center is just too deep a position to keep Carter over Phenuf
