The Islanders have now signed Biron and Roloson during the off season. I understand signing one veteran back up but whats the point of signing 2 when they've always seemed fairly commited to Dipietro? I thought their young back ups have always served them fairly well (McDonald and Dubie!) and from what I've heard they've got decent talent at the position in their farm system as well.
Do they know something about DiPietro's injuries that we don't?
What is the point of them putting valuable cap money into Biron?

It blows to be a DP owner... That's all i gotta say. They may take their sweet time w/ DP to rehab but I also think it's a combination of Biron looking for a home in the NHL but also having insurance that he has a team locked up right now instead of getting tempted by the lucrative money of Russia. As far as why the Isles got him I'd hafta say insurance say Roloson doesnt perform well or say they both perform well... they will probably sell 1 of them for a team w/ injury/performance issues in net during the season.

i'm guessing DP is at the point where it's 50/50 if he'll ever play again. obviously, isles management isn't going to come out and say that... so in order to protect the team from something like that, they've set themselves up to be able to say, come December, "Yeah, Rick is retiring, but we've got two extremely capable goalies, so don't worry." They've also got Koskinen coming up, probably sooner than you'd think (within the next 3-5 years).
Signing Roloson was fishy enough. Then they go and draft Koskinen in the 2nd Round, AND add Biron. Yeah, something's up with DiPietro, and I think it could be the end of his career.

Even if DP is not healthy I think Biron will be dealt at the deadline. The Islanders can rebuild his confidence and stature and then deal him to a team whose goalie is injured (it happens every year, see Buffalo).

I think back to Biron convincing Brier to come to philly so they can play together, brier plays what 20 games? Then Biron gets shipped out. Dang.
