All things being equal: G, A, P, +/-, PM, PPP, GWG, W, GAA, SV%, SO
Eller (STL - LW) Neuvirth (WAS - G)
for
Filatov (CLS - LW) Murphy (CAR - G) 2010 2nd round entry pick ('10 NHL entry players)
There are 10 teams, so that pick is going to be 11-20 and most likely right in the middle.
I love getting Filatov for Eller, but am unsure about dropping from Neuvirth who is getting quite the support these days for Murphy who although I'm reading great things about, isn't the top tier G prospect that Neuvirth is.
Anyway, thanks for the advice.

On the roster of the best team and arguably GM in the league. He knows what he's got and has no need to make changes to his roster. He's won the league for the past 3 years, and I've been the finalist for the past 4.
Anyway, I can try but highly doubt I'll get a good deal. Basically, just me asking gives him the upper hand being that we are both dominant teams. Know what I mean?

right.
well here's my concern... trading neuvirth, you're giving up the washington line of goalies. you lose your sure thing. so that leaves you with the phoenix system, the carolina "system", and nabokov.
if you do the trade, i think you need to make an effort to acquire another team's complete system. San Jose seemed like the best option, since Sateri is basically the future there, but it sounds like that would be a tough deal to make. You could also try getting the Philly system, excluding Emery. At this point, that's pretty much just Boucher and Eriksson, if I'm not mistaken.
To sum this all up... your upgrade with Filatov at LW is really helpful, but it might not be worth trading the Washington system for Carolina's... I don't think Carolina has Ward's successor yet, which means I don't think Murphy has a ton of value, long-term.
Now, if you can talk him into taking Varlamov, I would consider going against what I just said.

I shipped him over a feeler on Sateri. Would be nice for me to have him simply b/c I've got Nabby. A solid looking goalie of the future from the team your starter plays for is always a good move, IMO. Obviously, just look at my roster and that's also exactly why I targeted Murphy -> Ward.

You've mentioned that before with Varlie and Neuvirth. I happen to agree, but we're not in the majority if I'm not mistaken. What's your reasoning, out of curiosity, for thinking Neuvirth is actually the better of the two? And since we're on it, where do you have Bernier with those two?
You make a ton of sense there.
I got some responses elsewhere saying to grab that deal and go. There reasoning was solid, but not as thoughtful as yours being that I presented it the same but they didn't ask to look at the full rosters and big picture. All they had to go on was our main goalie depth, so like minus the Phx farm. All the big guys only.
Anyway, looking at it from the standpoint you pointed out makes me question it severely.

This is what got me excited about Murphy. It's from Justin Goldman's column, "School of Block".
"1. TUUKKA RASK 2. JONATHAN BERNIER *3. MICHAL NEUVIRTH 4. JHONAS ENROTH 5. CORY SCHNEIDER 6. JACOB MARKSTROM *7. CHET PICKARD *8. JONAS GUSTAVSSON 9. RICHARD BACHMAN 10. JOHN CURRY"
That's his top 10...
"11. MIKE MURPHY Murphy is an absolute steal for the Hurricanes organization. He’s a smaller goalie with incredible acrobatic flair and a very high compete level. With Tom Barrasso working on refining his sometimes outlandish style, Murphy is still a prized keeper league prospect. He will soak up so much information from Barrasso about being more positionally sound, how to take away more time and space by playing higher up in the crease and how to stay consistent. Similar to Barrasso’s impact on Ward, Murphy could succeed on the NHL stage sooner than you think. The skills, desire and work ethic is already in place, the only thing left to do is be patient and execute when opportunity strikes."
and here's where he has Sateri...
"34. HARRI SATERI The San Jose Sharks are pretty excited about Sateri’s development over the last season and for good reason. One of the more flashy and “clutch” goalies currently developing in Sweden, Sateri’s shtick is more about getting the job done and winning games then it is about being technically solid. But once he heads to North America and gets more experience playing on a smaller rink, he should develop nicely and end up pushing for time on the Sharks squad."

well, that's interesting. dobber seems to be preferring sateri over murphy at this point, but who really knows. truth be told, i haven't seen either sateri or murphy play, so i'm just going off numbers and what i've read. and the fact that san jose is a better team. i think carolina is one of these teams that's stuck on the cusp of the playoffs where they never get a great draft pick, but they aren't really contenders for the cup. makes me think murphy will, when he finally gets there, be playing behind a weak team.
also important to note... if Murphy becomes a quality NHL starter, it probably WON'T be with the Canes. Ward is very young, and very good.
In terms of the Washington situation... i've never seen Neuvirth play, but I've seen plenty of Varlamov. First of all, I'm not sure Varlamov will EVER be a quality NHL star. He might be one of these guys who has a couple good years here and there, but is never really that reliable as a franchise 'tender (think Garon). Secondly, even if he DOES make it as a full-time, long-term starter, he's got quite a few years of development left, from what i can tell. At least 3. In those three years, there's a very good chance that Neuvirth will come in and steal the show. If not, Washington's going to have to look elsewhere to get them through these next few years.
Either way, I think Neuvirth has the better upside. Just a gut reaction from what I've read/heard/seen.
People are so high on Filatov, but I think you're in great shape on LW. Not sure you need him. Could be nice trade bait for later though.

Filatov is a beast. Although, word on Eller says he really tore it up this year and should be coming to North America this season. As far as the goaltending situation Neuvirth does have the higher upside on Varlamov. Neuvirth lead the Hershey Bears to a Calder Cup Championship and was the playoff MVP. That's sure saying a hell of a lot considering that Hershey team is stacked w/ major scoring that they would hand him the MVP over the offensive juggernauts of Osala/Giroux and co. Also I think the last goalie to win the playoff MVP in the AHL was a lil fella named Carey Price and I think he's pretty good eh? Scott probably knows this but it really seems like he wants you to not even hesitate by throwing a big name like FIlatov in there w/ that 2nd Rounder thinking you won't realize Eller coming overseas off a career season in the SEL and Neuvirth probably flourishing behind the shadows of Varlamov's success in the NHL. Overall, it's a fair deal Filatov can really bite him in the ass, but so could both of Neuvirth and Eller from your end. As far as Murphy like James said as long as Ward is there he will be irrelevant til he gets dealt ala Cory Schneider in the Vancouver system.
