Might as well consolidate to one thread.
Looks like Ohlund is headed to Tampa to play with Hedman. That'd be a great pair.
i'm hearing 3.75 per year for 7 years for ohlund. wow.
i'm guessing that's going to be a front loaded deal, as hedman will be earning big bucks 3 years from now, and i can't imagine Ohlund making almost 4 million at age 40.

Sedins signed in vancover at 6 something mill a peice, maybe letting ohlund go was to make room, that seems like a lot for Ohlund especially when they are trying to stay well under the cap.

Ohlund is a perfect fir for Hedman. I would be thrilled if I were a Lightning fan.
The 3.75 million is pretty good for Ohlund, especially when you consider that Jeff Finger for 3.5 lat year. The seven years is pretty excessive. I think the Lightning will be regretting it in the past couple years of the deal. I wonder if there's a NTC in it.
The Canucks really had no intentinos of signing Ohlund. Not because he's not a good D-man, but because they already have Mitchell, Bieksa and Edler who play the same defensive style as Ohlie. The Canucks are looking for a bit more of a puck moving power play guy this year. That and or a guy with a little more grit.

hossa signs in chicago... holy moly, 12 years!
roloson signs in NYI... what about ricky dipietro??

I was not suprised by hossa but kopecky was a shock. The wings must be making sure there is room for some of the other youngsters like velino hudler helm and abdelcater or kopecky was getting tired of trying to crack the lineup. I hope this is not starting a trend of youngsters jumping ship like Quincy to LA and now Kopecky to Chicago.
Roloson in NYI is awesome, if DiPietro cant stay on the ice at least they have a veteran goalie to fill in for JT's first season. I know not many are up on Roley but he does pretty well for getting shelled on bad teams. If he had not been mashed into his own net by marc andre burgeron I think he would have a cup ring.

I guess they are pretty worried about Dipietro. Cap space is not really an issue for the Islanders right now and I think they just want to make sure they're competitive next year in order to get support for their new arena. My guess is that they want some insurance so they can stay in the playoff hunt if Ricky goes down next year.

The Habs have also signed Gionta, Cammerleri, Gill and Spacek.
They've replaced Lang, Koivu, Tanguay and Higgins with Gionta, Cammelleri and Gomez, which is a bit of an upgrade, but are they able to re-sign Kovalev too? I heard his deal was as good as done earlier, I guess not.
I guess they replaced Komisarek with Gill and Spacek, but Komisarek's defensive ability will be missed on that team. Gill isn't mobile enough to do the job, and Spacek isn't physical enough.

lang, koivu, tanguay, higgins, komisarek
FOR
gionta, cammelleri, gomez, gill, spacek
i think montreal won today. but not by much.

Now Kovalev has been linked to some other teams, so maybe he has been pushed out of Montreal. If it's koivu, tanguay, higgins, komisarek AND kovalev for gionta, cammelleri, gomez, gill and spacek then I think the Habs lost, and spent bucket loads of money.
Keep in mind they've also lost Brisebois and Bouillon off that blueline.

granted, tanguay still hasn't gone anywhere. if kovalev goes, maybe tanguay stays for a pay cut?

Rob Scuderi has signed with the LA Kings. Great move for Scary Rob... he got a ton of cash (over 3 mil per year). Probably an overpayment, but LA can afford it. And I think the Kings will really benefit from having a pretty mobile defenseman with a great stick and a cool head. Not to mention his playoff experience.
Now the question turns to who the Pens find to replace him. Beauchemin is still out there...

I was thinking Beauchemin for the Canucks .

This FA season has been kind of odd. The Wings are getting schooled a bit, but I never doubt Kenny Holland. I'm sure he knows what he's doing. Tough to lose Samuelsson and Kopecky. Kopecky is going to be a pretty solid player and I'm surprised both left. I'm guessing Kopecky found a connection with Hossa, both being Slovacks, and I'm sure never being able to crack the lineup played a part as well. Samuelsson left for the same reason....a chance for consistent play on the top two lines. Not sure where he thought he was playing in Detroit.....most of the time he was on the 2nd or 3rd line, which were pretty interchangeable. He seemed to find a home in Detroit after they rescued him from obscurity. Hopefully he'll be able to continue at the level he's been at and not disappear back into obscurity in Vancouver.
The Habs....man I'm not sure what they're doing. I don't see how any of their moves are going to benefit that team. They brought in 3 big names that haven't exactly performed to their ability. Cammy may be the exception, but he's had some pretty decent line mates. Gomez, and Gionata being reunited may be interesting....but I don't see how these 3 are an improvement over Koivu, Kovy, Tanguay, and Higgins. Personally I'd rather have Higgins and Kovy, at least they've grown with the team. The moves seem pretty lateral and risky....a big experiment that could really piss off the Hab faithful if it doesn't pan out.

Toronto signed the monster goalie Gustevson continuing their extreme make over of the team. Toronto could very well be the most improved team next season. I almost wonder if a fantasy tandem of Toskala Gustovson may be a dark horse fantasy asset.

i know i'm definitely drafting gustavsson... and if i get him, i won't hesitate to cut chris osgood for toskala.
should be fun to watch pogge/gustavsson go at it in camp for that backup job. that is, assuming toskala's starting job is safe.

Rotoworld reports Saku Koivu has signed with the ducks. To bad he didn't sign back in Montreal, I never thought I would see him in a different jersey.

Nice addition for the Ducks though. Koivu and Selanee might be an interesting combo.

Yea, for once it's Anaheim's D that's not looking so strong. They've got a #1 D-mean in Niedermayer, a #2/3 guy in Whitney, but after them they have 5 guys (Sbisa, Mikkelson, Brookbank, Wisniewski, Festerling) who I picture as #5/6/7 D-men, not top 4 quality guys. It will be interesting to see what happens on the back end over there.

Niittymaki signs with Tampa. Good move for them... glad he found a home.
McKee very close to signing in Pittsburgh. He'll be great if he can just stay off the IR.
Kotalik signed in NY. Still can't figure out what the hell the Rangers are doing, but if they can get Zherdev back, they're in better shape than they were 2 days ago.

I know what the Rangers are doing. ....The same thing they do every year. Throwing rocks in a pot and hoping to make stone soup. Perhaps the Rangers will have better luck with an underachieving player with talent than they do with talented players who to the Rangers and under achieve.

LOL at the rangers almost every year is like a free agent grab bag. I'm shocked they didn't nab Kovalev.
