Pronger and Dingle for Lupul, Sbisa, 2 first-rounders, and a 3rd rounder...
big-time trade. any reactions? what does this do for pronger's fantasy value? and lupul's? sbisa's?

I was somewhat shocked when I saw what Philly gave up. That's a steep price to pay when Pronger only has one year left on his contract. I don't see Pronger's value changing that much.

i agree... anaheim made off like bandits here. i don't know anything about dingle, but at a glance, anaheim wins this trade big time. is philly even ready to make a run this year? if not... why pronger?

Maybe they feel brier can be healthy this year and that Emry / Biron will make a good tandem. this team still has not had a chance to make a solid run with Briere's contribution. When Breir is healthy he is one of the tops in the league. I think pronger help their chances at a cup run but I question what they gave up for one year of his services. Also pronger is not getting any younger and his style of play is a little less effective with the new rules. I'm not saying he is ineffective he is still a Hall of Fame candidate defenseman but still.
imagine a full season with Gagne, Brier, Richard's staying healthy and pronger on the backend, it is kind of an awesome thought.

I don't think this is a great trade for the Flyers. It would have been great if they were only missing a stud D-man to make them a clear cup favorite, but they're still missing a goalie, and they've been left with no depth up front.
Emery is a good 'tender, but he's not a huge step up from Biron, who they obviously felt couldn't get the job done. And now they don't have the cap space to re-sign Biron.
One of Philly's strongest points near the end of last year was their depth. It was really hard to check Briere and Giroux on the third line, but now those guys are second liners. Now, if anyone gets hurt, who else do they have who can take a top six forward role? Outside of their top six all the Flyers have is goons, and Andreas Nodl, who had 4 points in 38 games last year.
You'd think they could go out and sign some depth guys, but they only have two million in cap space and one NHL caliber goalie under contract... and that guy didn't even play in the NHL last year.

Good points given the health history of the flyers you have to assume going into the playoffs without 1 or even 2 of your stars. And that cant be done well without solid secondary scoring. Time will tell but my immediate reaction is they just shot themselves in the foot.

Flyers paid an awfully steep price, but it seems like management feels like Pronger is the answer to slow down the Pens by basically roughing them up Broad Street Bullies style. Could work or could backfire, but Pronger brings leadership and a Cup under his belt so it can only help. On a lighter note I think the Flyers are the most brawl-ready team out there in the NHL... haha

Bad move by the Flyers. This is the equivalent of them bringing in Darrien Hatcher a few years back. Another big D-man, past his prime who's most likely going to end up on the IR because of the level of physical play the Flyers play. Never been a Pronger fan, and the Flyers gave up a lot for what could be another injury liability. Sucks to be Lupol who seemed to find his game in Philly after being a wash in his first stint with Anaheim.
I agree with those saying even a healthy Flyers squad won't do much damage because there's just not enough depth up front to make up for the lack of depth on the back end. Emery's a flash in the pan goalie, and he's not the answer the Flyers are looking for. They should have left him in the minors and gone after Roloson, or perhaps Legace.
Considering Emery and Prongers hot headed track records though it does look like the Flyers are constructing a modern day NHL Chiefs team ready to physically crush their opponents.

Anyone else noticed the irony in Lupul being traded for Pronger....again.
In 06 Lupul and Smid were traded to the Oilers for Pronger.

lupul can really gauge how his value has changed relative to pronger's over the past few years...
back then it was Lupul, Smid, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder, conditional pick (for pronger).
now it's Lupul, Sbisa, 1st rounder, 1st rounder, 3rd rounder (for pronger/dingle).
I'd say Lupul's just a hair more valuable relative to pronger now, eh?

Yea, I think Pronger's value has fallen more than Lupul's has risen. Though it is a combo of both.

yeah for sure... he went from being right in his prime in 2006, to being "over the hill" (in hockey terms) in 2009. That's the difference between 31 and 34 for a defenseman.

yeah hitting that 33 34 35 mark is a big milestone I think that's when the body starts saying knock knock
