This one surprised me a bit... who knows how true it is... www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/274189.html"According to the daily Russian sports newspaper Sport-Express, the Washington Capitals strongman from Quebec Donald Brashear would pursue his career in the KHL." Apparently he's been talking with Chekhov Vityaz... a team run by Alexei Zhamnov that features former NHL bad boy Chris Simon. Brashear's contract is up after this year. Brashear himself denies the report, saying "To me, it's a total fallacy because I haven't anything about it."

I think Brashear could find a job in the NHL. He's one of the toughest guys around and his presence can stop teams from taking liberties on superstars.

Since yesterday, Brashear has admitted to having received a call from Zhamnov (or a rep from that team). He said that right now his primary focus is on the playoffs and then re-signing with Washington after that. But it sounds like he's willing to consider Russia if a) Washington doesn't re-sign him, and b) the KHL offers him more money than any NHL team.
Let's not forget that at one point, Brashear was a decent hockey player. He had 66 points and 250 PIM in 62 games in the 93-94 AHL season. If a Russian team is willing to give him a little more ice time and he can start scoring goals again, that might spark some interest. He also has very minimal familial ties in North America according to a Washington Post article I read last week. He has no contact with his parents, and despite having two kids, has little to do with his own family.
If Washington doesn't re-sign him, I would expect to see him in Russia.
