Then, Carolina dealt O'Sullivan to Edmonton for Erik Cole.

It's a four way deal! I'm confused as to how it goes exacly, but Buffalo, Carolina, LA and Edmonton are involved.
Buffalo gives Kotalik and gets the 2nd rounder. I'm not sure which team got Kotalik.

It is, they had some chart about it, but I only caught the tail end of it. I had to leave the TV/computer for a bit and walk the dog.

Any word on Kolzig, Jamie Heward, Andy Rodgers and a 4th going to the Lightning for Toronto's Richard Petiot?
Seems like a bit of a weird deal. But I guess the Leafs are taking contracts from the Lightning in exchange for Rogers and a 4th?

In a very odd move, TSN is reporting Tampa Bay traded Olaf Kolzig, Jamie Heward, prospect Andy Rogers and a 4th round pick for defenseman Richard Petiot.
Petiot is a useless minor league defenseman and everything except the 4th round pick Tampa is giving up is useless as well. Its almost like Tampa just wanted Toronto to pay Kolzig and Heward's salaries for the rest of the season and they gave Toronto Andy Rogers and a 4th round pick to do it.

Oilers get Kotalik and O'Sullivan. Hurricane gets Erik Cole. + Edmonton's 5th Sabers get a 2nd rounder. (From Carolina) Kings get Justin Williams.

But I thought the second rounder the Sabres sent to Toronto earlier in the Moore deal originally came from Carolina? I'm confused.
Although the deal did make updating my poster pretty easy. I've got a canes poster from a couple years ago that has Ward, Whitney, Cole and Williams on it. So just needed to move the post-it from Cole's face to Williams'

I gotta believe they have some indication of getting a contract done with Cole.

Possibly. But former Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette stated that Erik Cole was brought back to help Eric Staal. Those two always played together before he was dealt to Edmonton and he thinks their lineup greatly missed that powerful duo. They probably think they can get him re-signed, but I can tell you they interviewed Erik Cole shortly after the news broke and he didn't sound thrilled to being traded, even if it was heading back to Carolina.

I agree Edmonton stole this whole trade as of what we see this season. Now if you look at Williams and Cole's numbers in the past it looks a bit more even, but I don't know about Williams anymore. I think his best years are behind him, and he's going to be a Todd Bertuzzi like player that continues to bounce from team to team as they all hope to recapture his used potential. I like the guy....but I think the injuries have taken their toll.
What is wrong with the Kings management too? They keep dishing off all their young talent. First Cammy, now O'Sullivan. I put money on Jack Johnson being dealt by the end of next year. The only player they seem to hold onto is Frolov.
It seems like Carolina is forcing Erik Cole to come back home. They couldn't sign him so they trade for him and he'll probably bolt again when his contract is up. It's like luring a college student home by offering to do his laundry. He takes a little spending money and then heads off again and doesn't return his parents phone calls for weeks.

LA's been dealing a ton of young talent, but also holding onto a ton of draft picks. maybe they're seeing the o'sully just isn't quite right for their organization. i think in a year or two we'll find out if LA management is way off base, or downright brilliant.

Whenever a player holds out and misses all of training camp because hes demanding more money, its obviously something that doesn't sit well with his team. When O'Sullivan eventually did sign, the day before the season started this year, I was pretty sure at some point he would be traded.
