Rumors continue to run rampant that the Lightning are looking to deal all-star center Vincent Lecavalier for a package of young players and draft picks.Lecavalier signed an 11-year, $85 million contract extension with the Lightning this past summer. The deal includes also includes no-trade clause, but it doesn't kick in until July 1. "They told me they would come to me, and I believe they will if something would have happened," Lecavalier said. "If I get a phone call one day and they want to talk to me, then, obviously, I have no choice. Tampa is the place I want to be, but you never know what can happen in business."

Sadly, Lecavalier has no say until July 1 so if Tampa's insane management decide to part ways with him... it will be a terrible mistake to probably alienate their fan base. It's been done before as far as guy whose NTC hasn't kicked in for those who didn't know Visnovsky was dealt to the Oilers about 2 weeks before his NTC kicked in the extension he signed w/ the Kings.

You would think, even at his talent level that his contract is near untradable....

tampa has recently come out with strong statements indicating vinny is not going anywhere. I know that could be posturing in the negotiation process but I have to say in this case i think its 100% true vinny stays a bolt. it reminds me of Yzerman trade roumers. Everyone was like Wha wha What!!!

You would think, even at his talent level that his contract is near untradable.... Lecavalier making around the same ballpark as other elite players like Iginla, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin Thornton, Chara, Vanek, Staal, Hossa, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Heatley, Spezza, Luongo, Briere etc. Hardly makes most of them near untradeable IMO. Its not like we're talking about true overpaid players like Chris Drury, Scott Gomez, Wade Redden or Brad Richards.

In today's unstable economic climate it's probably too much for too long for most owners to commit too... unless it's Montreal's owners.

Though the cap hit is low, some owner will still have to pay him $10 million a year for the next 7 years. I think it would be tough to find an owner willing to do that. Some of the biggest markets could take that on, but the biggest markets are in cap trouble anyway... or they're Toronto.

what, you mean the $369,000 remaining payroll space in Montreal isn't enough to pay Vinny's $10,000,000 salary? errrr

Well, the new ownership group are the ones who signed him to that deal. So I think if they are in financial trouble(which they have said they are not, and Gary Bettman has said the Tampa is doing fine) then yes I think they would trade them. If they do that, it just shows that those guys have no clue what they are doing and are idiots. Surely they knew what kind of a committment aan 11 year deal at that price tag would command on their part...to deal Lecavalier the same way they dealt Boyle after signing him long-term would send a terrible message to the fans, and make it highly unlikely many free agents would want to sign in Tampa. I just think its a Montreal fairy tell, blown up by the media, Lecavalier has been in Tampa a while now and I can't remember a season that didn't go by without hearing trade rumors to Montreal or Toronto. Its hogwash.
