Sens get Comrie and Campoli in trade with IslesIsles website link | Sens website linkThe Ottawa Senators have acquired center Mike Comrie and defenseman Chris Campoli from the New York Islanders in exchange for winger Dean McAmmond and San Jose' 2009 1st round draft pick(which Ottawa had previously acquired from Tampa Bay). This will be Comrie's 2nd tour of duty with Ottawa, as he played there in 2006-07. Comrie is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Campoli is only 23 and was one of the Isles better defenseman. He is locked up cheap next season with a very low cap hit.

I guess this is mostly Campoli for a 1st rounder. Which makes sense for the Sens if they didn't think they could get a potential power play quarterback with the 29th ish pick in next year's draft.
McCammond is a great 3rd liner with lots of speed, but Ottawa's problem is they have about 8 third liners. Comrie is probably a contract dump for the Islanders. There's no point in paying his $4 million salary for the last bit of the year...... though I figured they could get more for a scoring center.

Well... I don't like the deal that much, but I guess if you needed some immediate help/impact guess this was an option. Campoli will be nice for the Sens but odds are Comrie won't be retained unless his experience on Long Island horrified him enough to never leave Ottawa again. 1st rounder is a little heavy especially with a deep draft, but this smells like a desperate move by a desperate team looking for a quick fix...
