Pens fired Michel Therrien... relocated Asst. Andre Savard within the org. Kept Meloche (goalie coach) and Yeo (asst. in charge of PP). Promote Bylsma from WBS as interim head coach. Details to come.

This is a bit of a surprise, considering he took the team to the finals last year, but I guess someone has to take the fall for their sub-par performance this year... and you can't really blame the GM for not signing Hossa.

I actually like this move. I think Bylsma has a lot to offer and there's been rave reviews about his performance w/ the farm team for the Penguins. While watching Anaheim playing Atlanta, the Anaheim announcers believe Bylsma is capable of turning the Penguins around. As far as Therrien if your players aren't performing the axe has to fall on someone and unfortunately for Therrien it was his job.

don't underestimate the impact of Andre Savard being moved as well... assistant coaches have a lot to say in how the team is playing. I'm surprised they didn't do a complete overhaul and dump Mike Yeo, too.
quite frankly, therrien was the unfortunate recipient of bad circumstances... he was fired to shake the team up, i think. that said, he never should've been signed to that extension last year... he's great for a team with a bunch of young players like the Pens were 3 years ago... not for a stanley cup contender.

I think it was the right move to give that team a fresh outlook. I think Terrien had lost the loyalty of the players a long time ago and this move was needed. I imagine the Pittsburg team is a very difficult team to coach with how young their superstars are. I hope they find the right person for the job the coaching situation in Pitts has been far from stablie for too long.
