Denis Gauthier suspended Los Angeles Kings defenseman Denis Gauthier has been suspended five games without pay for hitting Montreal Canadiens' defenseman Josh Gorges in the head in a game on January 31.
Gauthier was initially given a five minute major for charging and a game misconduct on Saturday. Gauthier will forfeit $56,451.61, which goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
He will be eligible to return on February 14 against the Oilers.
Tyler Kennedy suspended Penguins center Tyler Kennedy has been suspended one game by the NHL for initiating a fight with the Maple Leafs' Luke Schenn on Saturday night. The Leafs had asked the league to review the incident, saying that Kennedy had come off the Pens' bench to start an altercation with the young defenceman.
Schenn had delivered a powerful hit to Pens' superstar Evgeni Malkin prior to the scrap.

The Kennedy penalty was BS... Kennedy made a legal change to fight Schenn, while the Leafs had 6 players on the ice involved in that altercation. Yes, Kennedy merited a suspension because he got on the ice ONLY to fight Schenn, but the Leafs should also have been severely penalized for having too many on the ice during a fight. Is 6 players really different from clearing the whole bench?
