Each week, the Associated Press polls 65 of the nation's sportswriters to determine a top 25 ranking for NCAA football, basketball, and other sports. We've taken this method and applied it to the National Hockey League. Each week, a hand-picked group of contributors will rank the top 15 NHL teams. The scores will be compiled here. Rank | Logo | Team | Points | Change | 1 | | Detroit (10) | 150 | -- | 2 | | San Jose | 127 | -- | 3 | | Dallas | 125 | -- | 4 | | Montreal | 118 | -- | 5 | | Pittsburgh | 109 | -- | 6 | | Anaheim | 103 | -- | 7 | | Philadelphia | 81 | -- | 8 | | Washington | 68 | -- | 9 | | NY Rangers | 51 | -- | 10 | | Chicago | 47 | -- | 11 | | Ottawa | 44 | -- | 12 | | New Jersey | 36 | -- | 13 | | Calgary | 30 | -- | 14 | | Vancouver | 28 | -- | 15 | | Edmonton | 26 | -- |
ARV: Buffalo 12, Boston 11, Minnesota 7, Colorado 6, St. Louis 5, Tampa Bay 5, Carolina 4, Phoenix 3, Nashville 1 Notes: Teams receive 15 pts for a first-place vote, 14 pts for second place, and so on. The number of first place votes received by a team is in parentheses. ARV stands for also receiving votes, and could be likened to 'honorable mention'.
