agreed. They really need 2 things > a top tier goalie, and a top tier winger. What they currently have is a makeshift goalie system, and backup wingers

They can't score (especially without Gaborik), but they are very hard to beat. With their D and their goaltending I think they could finish above both Edmonton and Colorado this year.

Backstrom was tremendous tonight!

I was right about Garon, Traded. But to Pittsburgh for Sabourin? I didnt see that coming. Why would Pittsburgh want someone as inconsistent as Garon?
If anyone won this trade it's Edmonton. They get a young tender who still has plenty of potential to become something great,

Fair assessment on the 'Nucks. I think they'll score enough with the Sedins, Demitra and Sundin. The problem with Vancouver now is their defensive play has been terrible. Bieksa has lost his confidence and is trying to do too much with the puck, Edler has taken a step back and is looking like what he is, a second year defenseman (not like the next Mathias Ohlund, as the media has named him), and Ohlund and Mitchell have been inconsistent at best.
On top of that, the forwards have been forgetting how to check on their own. They're getting too deep on the forecheck which leaves then unable to backcheck effectively..... which means the Canucks are giving up 7-10 odd man rushes a game... a ridiculous amount for a 'defensive' team.
In short, the Canucks forgot how to play defense.... hopefully they can figure it out over the all star break.

I agree, I watched highlights of yesterdays game vs. the Sharks and I was surprised that no one got back during line changes very fast. This led to the decisive GWG by Marleau. A great outlet pass from Nabokov.... and instantly there was a 3 on 1. Didn't look very good. Sundin had good chances to score too. Just couldnt get it between the pipes.

The Kings are next year's Coyotes! Though Bryzgalov is better than Quick. I would still be getting excited if I was a Kings fan.

It's tough for the Kings this year. You have San Jose, the big dog, just beating up on everyone. Then, you have the 3 Northwest teams in front of them for that last playoff spot.... Even though the Kings got on a semi-roll, If they don't piece this thing together with wins against teams they should beat, they will be saying "We'll Get 'Em Next Year"
Are there any Kings fans here on HU who would like to add something about their prospects of making the playoffs and what lies ahead for this team?

Welp... I have hopes for the playoffs and I believe they can do it. Teams are beginning to give the Kings more respect now and this is where they get tested with teams completely prepared for them. Kings can play exceptional and playing well on the road will go a long way for their confidence. Guys are starting to believe and players are stepping up. This team is coming together very nicely and it's surprised people because this team is coming to fruition a little earlier than expected. Regardless this team is going to be great. If people don't start believing it this season well... chances are their eyes will open up next year.

Is it too harsh to blame Phoenix's struggles on Jokinen? Most other guys are living up to their expectations in Phoenix, but not Jokinen, by far. If he was playing like the 06-07 Jokinen then they would be in the playoffs for sure.

I think most of the Coyotes struggles this season can be blamed on a combination of lackluster play from Jokinen and Bryzgalov, neither of which have been near top form. The loss of Keith Ballard has also been greatly felt, as everything he brought to the blueline has yet to be replaced.
The pieces Florida picked up in the trade for Jokinen, Ballard and another defenseman, Nick Boynton, have the Panthers looking like a legit playoff team in the east while the Coyotes chances of making the playoffs look dismal at best.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jokinen is dealt on or before Wednesday.

not sure i'd call Phoenix's playoff shot "dismal"... they're only 6 points out of 7th.
but you're right... something's gotta change or they're doomed. and it probably will be jokinen on the move.

Yea, it would be wise for Phoenix to be sellers at the deadline. They're sitting in 14th place in the conference and I don't see them climbing over LA, St. Louis, Nashville, Anaheim, Edmonton and Minnesota/Dallas to make the playoffs.
Plus, at this point, only one team in the west is a seller at the deadline (Colorado) so the Coyotes could charge a high price for their assets.
I'm not 100% sure Jokienen will be dealt though, he's still got another year left on his contract, and the Coyotes will be in the top eight next year. Reinprecht, and Morris are good as gone though.

i'm not convinced they'll be top 8... detroit, chicago, LA, st. louis, san jose... 5 very solid-looking teams right there, if i'm not mistaken. throw columbus in and one of the northwest teams. it's going to be a very, very tough conference next year.

With the way the Coyotes have been playing, on top of the fact they either let or made their 2nd best defenseman sit out last night in a pretty important game, I can't call their playoff hopes anything other than dismal.

will gretzky ever be fired? is he to blame at all? He is 134-153-22 since taking over in Phoenix. Maybe that's actually a good record considering what he's had to work with?

Oh yea, they're out of it this year. I just hope they realize they're out. Zoom and I were speculating about next year. But so much can happen in the off season, it's probably too hard to tell.

Gretz probably won't be fired because the GM wants him to groom the young players

Idio-Logic is taking off until next season. Next season I will incorporate everything you've read and come to love in my fantasy team reports. But, I also hope to upgrade a few things and probably will do something similar to a top 10 kind of player ranking at each position. See you all for the 09-10 season!
