This trailer is chilling. Heath Ledger as the Joker gave me the chills. No wonder he was on all those anti-depressants. Better than Nicholson from what I see here. This should be a good one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkT1wdRePco

I think the Joker is too dark in this movie, I actually like the way he was in "Batman" with Nicholson better.
Still though, I'm just glad to see the Joker back in a Batman movie, he's my favorite villain.

This is going to be the movie to beat this year, in my opinion. I think this movie is going to be great, and I know the box office is going to be HUGE.
I'm really looking forward to this flick...even more so in a way it kind of honors Ledger in a way.
The Joker you'll see in this film more closely resembles the Joker thats been terrorizing Batman in the comics for decades.

Hey quick question, is the Joker the only villian in this movie? A lot of times there has been multiple villians in a Batman movie. Anyone know or is it still hush-hush?
I'd love to see Harvey Dent....

Harvey Dent is in this movie. He's played by Aaron Eckert, which is the guy from Thank You for Smoking (hilarious movie by the way).
There are some add's where they're hinting towards introducing two-face in this film too. If not, considering Harvey Dent is in this film, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the 3rd movie.
From what I've seen it looks like Harvey Dent and Joker are at odds in this film, but it's hard to tell just from press release photo's an ad's.
And I agree on Ledger in this film. I think this will be his best acting performance. If you think back to the character he played in his first big movie (Ten Things I hate About You) he has come a long way. He's always been seen as a cheesy heart throb actor, but when you see him in films like Monsters Ball, Brokeback Mountain, and his seriously under rated role in Lords of Dogtown he really was just about to really break into some seriously big roles.....this role as the Joker being the first.
I was shocked when I heard they had cast him because Ralph Fiennes (Red Dragon) and Adrien Brody (The Pianist) were also being considered, and I thought Brody would have been unbeleiveable, but after seeing the first few previews I'm sold on Ledger.

I was going to go into all this myself, but remembered I read it all from wikipedia anyways so I just copy and pasted it from there....some good stuff below:
Director Christopher Nolan had wanted to work with Ledger on a number of projects in the past, but had been unable to do so. When Ledger saw Batman Begins, he realized a way to make the character work in that film's tone, and Nolan agreed with his anarchic interpretation. To prepare for the role, Ledger lived alone in a hotel room for a month, formulating the character's posture, voice and psychology. While he initially found it difficult, Ledger was eventually able to generate a voice that did not sound like Jack Nicholson's take on the character in Tim Burton's 1989 Batman film.
He started a diary, in which he wrote the Joker's thoughts and feelings to guide himself during his performance. He was also given Batman: The Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth to read, which he "really tried to read [...] and put it down". Ledger also cited inspirations such as A Clockwork Orange and Sid Vicious. Ultimately, "there’s nothing that [is] consistent", as his main objective was to frighten the audience.
Bringing the Joker back to the big screen invited a wave of speculation over his depiction. Before Ledger was confirmed in July 2006, Paul Bettany, Lachy Hulme, Adrien Brody, Steve Carell, and Robin Williams had publicly expressed interest in the role. Jack Nicholson was disappointed that he had not been approached to reprise the part. "You can't believe the reasons things do or don't happen. Not asking me how to do the sequel is that kind of thing," he said. "Maybe it's not a mistake. Maybe it was the right thing, but to be candid, I'm furious."

That Nicholas quote kind of bugs me. He doesn't "own" the role of The Joker. Sure he did a great job, but watching it today it's not as great as it was back when it was released.....and I have no doubt that Ledger's joker will be better.
Nicholason would have been too old for this film, and his Joker was too happy. These films are dark, and his Joker has no place in these films.
After seeing films like One Hour Photo and Insomnia Robin Williams might have been an interesting choice, but after seeing the clips I've seen I think Ledger was the risky and the right choice.

I'm getting pretty excited for this movie now. I think the marketing blitz is on, and it's a bit too in your face (and entire sign in page on MySpace? C'mon!) but hopefully that won't slow this movie down.
I just watched a short clip out in the depths of the internet, and Two Face is in this movie. Not sure to what extent but the 15 second clip I just watched was of Aron Eckhart in the shadows with a burn scar covering one side of his face.
I think this movie is easily going to be the #1 movie of the summer (hope so anyway, I've got money riding on it) now that Indiana Jones 4 has been a bit of a disappointment. Really the only other film that i think stands a chance is Wall-E. I know it's an animated movie, but it looks ridiculously cute and cool.....and who would have thought just a few years ago that Finding Nemo would beat out Matrix Reloaded, Pirates of the Caribbean, Terminator 3, Bad Boys 2, X-Men 2 and the Hulk (the crappy one, not the new bad ass one)

Nicholson as the Joker WAS the first Batman--Nicholson MADE that movie. It should have been called The Joker not Batman. I'd be pissed off too if I were Nicholson.--Just don't bring back that gump Keaton as Batrman--or worse yet ,that full of himself shove a finger down your throat GeorgeClooney!!!!!!!
This Joker does look prety cool though, more horrific and demented. I lke the Dark element. Nicholson was more of a comic book on the big screen. I guess it depends what they're going for. I like the comic bookish element of the original; It's a shame Keaton ruined the original Batman movie, he was a supreme no personality BORE. In fact, ALL the actors they have had thus far as batman have sucked IMO.
Who the EF is Heath Ledger anyway? I never even hear of him till he died. But then again I have very, very little use for the Hollywood crowd so. . .
I won't shell out the cash to see this flick. If this Leger guy didn't die, I doub't there would be all the hype. Now we'll have an instant James Dean and Rebel Without a Cause on our hands (both overrated as hell IMO). And the more I see this trailer, the Batman in this movie looks as lame as the others. But the Joker does look pretty cool I'll give it that much.

Bruce Wayne is supposed to be a flat character. That's why all of the actors who have played Batman have been fairly bland. I think Keaton was the best Batman because of his look (his eyebrows have that Batman thing going) and he was a bit more comical (on purpose, as opposed to Clooney who was comical on accident). But Christian Bale is pretty bad ass in his own right, and perfect for the part in these new films.
Heath Ledger was a pretty low key, lower tier actor who was really on his way up. He was kind off a fringe actor who didn't do a lot of big movies. He did a cheesy teen comedy called 10 Things I Hate About You in the 90's and then a cheesy action flick called "Knights Tale" that were pretty popular. But then all of a sudden he did 3 great roles, one as a skateboarding legend in "Lords of Dogtown", he was in "Brokeback Mountain" and he played an awesome supporting role in "Monsters Ball." And now this, which will be the best role of his career, and most likely what he is remember for.
I actually think this movie would have just as much hype, if not a little more if he were still around, because he was a pretty candid actor, not to mention being somewhat of a heart throb with the ladies. He was probably the most promotable actor in the cast, and they won't be able to use that. Instead all of the other actors are going to be stuck talking about his death, which has it's own pluses and minuses as far as the film is concerned.

I suppose Bruce Wayne was pretty laided back in the TV series, and yeah the eye brow thing and Keaton I've even noticed myself. Batman is a boring character, so I guess Keaton fits that bill. Kilmer reminds me of a surfer dude , so I don't like him as Batman, Clooney is George Clooney...he is everything I hate about Hollywood., arrogant, know it all, loudmouth who wants the world to revolve around his big head. I hate a movie about myself if that blowhard played the leading role. I guess Batman as a comic charater just sucks anyway, I'm not into the DC charaters. But even Spiderman and the Hulk who are two of my favorite comic heros, their big screen renditions wern't so hot either. The fisrt Spidey movie was pretty cool I guess.

I agree Batman is kind of a dull superhero, but they've done a good job at making the Batman films pretty exciting. Batman1, 2, and 3 were some of my favorite movies growing up, and I was blown away by Batman Begins. But I was never a fan of the Batman comic books.
I'm a big fan of the first 2 Spiderman films. Hated the 3rd one with a passion. It suffered from what most comic book sequels tend to suffer from. They try to add too many characters and end up selling the plot and characters short, and the movie ends up cheesy. The first Hulk sucked green balls, but I thought this new one was sweet. It was intense and loud, everything that the Hulk should be. Ironman was surprisingly good as well. I didn't think he'd be an appealing character to make into a movie, but it's a damn good movie.
Don't know if anyone knows this but they're planning a full of Marvel film spree in the next few years. Ironman 2, Captain America, Thor, Ant-man (don't know about that one), and they're all going to culminate in 2011 with an Avengers movie. If you stick around through the credits of Ironman they reference it when they introduce Nick Fury, and at the end of the Hulk they do the same. Who knows if the comic movie phase will last into 2011, but if it does that movie will be huge.

Words can't describe how excited I am for this movie. I got tickets last week for a midnight release at my local theatre. The Joker and Two-Face look awesome and they brought back badass Christian Bale, the best Batman hands down in my opinion. Add to that the fact that they ditched Katie Holmes for the more talented Maggie Gyllenhal (spelling?) all while keeping Gary Oleman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Cain and all I can say is wow...
The trailers and TV Spots don't help with my impatience at all.

I just read this online today -- "As of June 27th, Dark Knight has sold eight times as many tickets on MovieTickets.com as Spider-Man 3 at the same point in the sales cycle — 21 days from the film's official release."
Other movie ticket websites are reporting the same type of sales. Most midnight shows are already sold out.....3 weeks prior to the release of the film.
Spiderman 3 holds the record for the largest 3 day opening weekend with $151 milliion, and it currently sits at #15 on the all time Box Office list. If you consider that The Dark Knight has already sold 8 TIMES as many tickets as Spiderman 3 at the same point in the sales cycle, and the early reviews from the private screenings all being Overwhelmingly positve......this movie is going to break some records.

Definately thrilled about this new movie. I went bananas on the first Christian Bale version of Batman. Can't wait to see how Ledger performs as his last role. This is going to be the blockbuster of the summer, the must see movie. Everytime i watch the trailer i get chills. I'm pretty sure this movie will be worth all the hype.

I was going to wait to see this film, but I just couldn't stand it. I've been waiting almost a year as it is, and one more day might have just killed me.
What an absolutely stunning achievement this movie is. Comic book films/super hero movies all seem to follow the same formula. Whether it be X-Men, Spiderman, or even the original Batman movies....the majority of the films revolve around fight scenes and character development. This movie sets a new standard not just for comic book films, but for story telling in general. It's hard to imagine that this movie is an adaptation of a comic book, what most would consider the lower end of childrens literature. If anything the previews only do justice to the movies hype, and do little for promoting the actual story (the previews barely touch on the fact that there's a second villain in this film).
This is not a movie you go to see for fight scenes, we've seen that in every other comic book remake ever released, and if I'm being honest the action scenes are view and far between. This film shows what is missing from Hollywood lately. This is something new and deeper. The battle between the Joker and Batman is taken to new levels in this movie, and Ledger may have just pulled off the best villian ever on film. It's darkness vs. darkness, but chaos vs. order all at the same time. The Joker calls it in the film when he says "this is what happens when an unstoppable force meets an imoveable object." The line between Batman's outlaw justice and the Joker's lawless justice sits on the line of sanity. Ledger's Joker doesn't even compare to any other version of the villian in print or on film. Throughout the theater during the film I could hear people saying "he's insane," and they weren't just stating the obvious. We've all seen crazy on film before, but not like this. Ledger's Joker is brilliant philosophical anarchy packaged with a snarling smile. He's not the gimmicky clown with a grudge we're familiar with. He's the type of madness that's contagious, that can split people's moral compass down the middle because his chaos is frieghtful but at the same time appealing. Insane is the only way to describe it because it's the only feeling going through your head.
While Ledger's Joker is the appeal of this film, the standout performance is the story, which has so many layers I've been racking my brain since I saw the film trying to think of a movie as simplisticaly dense as this movie. It's an easy good vs. evil plot, but that's a drop in the dark compared to the ripples that simple idea sets off when it comes to who wins, and who actually is good and evil. Is it all just chaos, is it orderly, or is it a game of chance? You can watch the film for the simple idea of Batman vs. the Joker and you can leave it at that, but there's so much more to think about I honestly could have sat through another 3 hours of this movie watching these scenarios play out and the movie is almost 3 hours as it is. It's about crime and punishment, and the cost of both, on all sides. If you go to see just heroes and villains, expect to find yourself reevaluating your definition of both several times over. The Dark Knight is about the thin fragile line that seperates them, and the end result is a film so dark it's a compressed diamond on film.
(Great previews before the movie too! The Watchmen <another graphic novel remake by the people that did 300>, a cop drama with DeNiro and Pacino, a political drama with DeCaprio and Crowe, and Christian Bale in Terminator: Salvation!)

I sit in my living room watching this in high def and I still get blown away. I work part time at a video store so i got my copy about 5 days ago... Ive watched it about 4 times. Cant get enough... I get chills during the (SPOILER) Interrogation scene where Joker yells at Batman: "YOU HAVE NOTHING, NOTHING TO THREATEN ME WITH!" He really didnt and I get goosebumps just thinking about that scene. Oh well... I love this movie.

Man if you liked Batman Begins, you'll love Dark Knight. I thought Batman Begins was good, much better than I thought it was going to be, but this one blows that one and any other comic book film clear out of the water. It sets a new standard for comic book and action films in general.
I saw it 6 times in the theater, and never got tired of watching it. It's rare that I ever go see a movie twice.

But this is one of many exceptions...this movie really does make you feel all warm and gooey inside. Wow I feel the same way. This is one of the exceptions where something is enormously main stream and manages to not be totally retarded. They did a wonderful job on these movies. IMO the previous batman movies were more akin to the TV series then the comic and as a result hard to enjoy. Keaton was the best batman in that series but the new movies are so much better then the old ones its difficult to even compare them. I think the old ones were fun, but I never really felt batman is fun. Batman stories are best when they explore very dark topics. I enjoyed Ledger as joker the best only because he embraced the dark side of the character. Nicolson was more stage performance "Jack Nicolson as the Joker" kinda stuff. Heath Ledger became a different person to play the part and paid the ultimate price for his performance. RIP Heath... Everytime I think about this movie I experience a new kind of awesome.

Wow, just watched this for the 1st time tonight and I gotta tell you, after hearing all my friends and family give it great reviews, I was a little skeptical, but Dark Knight blew me away!! Instantly one of my top 10 of all time. The performance by Heath Ledger was simply incredible to say the least. In a time when movies of this genre often have some shotty and see-through acting, the depth and relationships of all the great characters in this movie was fantastic. Loved the dark storyline as well. Wish I had seen this in the theater now
